Hi this is Mohit. I cleared my CA in May'06. Was involved into other business till now. Now i have decided to start off with my career in the field of CA. But being out of touch from this field since more than a year the problem that i am facing is that should i get training by applying for a job in a local firm or should i directly start off with my own practice. My field of interest is Finance. So, can anyone help me out in this matter and get a good solution for it.

No need to get into any firm- but you can take up work on assignment basis if you really want to - otherwise spend atleast 3 o 4 hours going through sites like CAclubindia, ICAi, PDICAI, ROC etc.. this will bring you back into mainstream of CA profession. Continue this for 4 months - this is more than sufficient. Dont let your professional skills rust - keep in touch with matters relevant to Chartered Accountants. Sharpen your professional skills and all the best

Update your knowledge. As suggested by Mr. ravi Shankar, surf through websites. You are the guide of yourself. In case of doubts raise them. Infact doubts clarify that there is knowledge. Einstein discoved formula by raising doubts. Good Luck.

That was a really good suggestion. Can u also suggest me on how to get complete knowledge about portfoilio management andd project financing, so that i can start taking up assignments on them.

These need special skills which can be acquired only by attending some course in an Institute plus u can do some research through Google search
