How to know category of service from service tax regi.no.

Hello Sir.
As far as my knowledge is concern there is no way to identify the same.
First Ten letter of S.Tax Reg.No is PAN No of the applicant,
11th & 12th digit is S.Tax code I.e SD or ST and
Last Three digits for premises you apply , if apply for 1st premises that it is 001 & 2nd than it should be 002.
You can check category from ACES site..

why there is different name sd or st used

Thank you sir for reply, but i also try the same from ACES site, but in there also Catagory of Service not mentioned.

The list of 120 services is given ACES, CBEC website etc. You know the nature of service being provided by you, so you have to ascertain the exact category of service under which the services provided by you are appropriately classifiable. Accordingly the services are to be classified.

If you are trying to ascertain from the service being provided by a person/business entity from his Service Tax registration No., then the same is not possible.

Even, on the website www.cbec.nsdl, if you put the Service Tax Registration No, you will know the details such as name, address, jurisdiction range, division & commissionerate details, but the category of service provided  is not available.

download latest st1 and st2 from aces website and you will get the category
