Quick Summary
This discussion clarifies the process for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) to file their income tax returns in India. It confirms that NRIs can use the same forms, like ITR 2, as residents, simply by selecting their NRI status. Key requirements include detailing days stayed in India during the financial year and preceding years, along with providing your foreign Tax Identification Number.

Same forms and procedure applicable.

Simply file ITR 2 and select NRI status under Residential category.

You will have to give details of Number of days stayed during the FY and aggregate No. of days stayed during preceding 4 years to the previous year.

You will have to give PAN or Tax Identification Number of foreign country where you stay and taxed.

Rest ITR process is same. Include only Income received or accruing in India in ITR.
