Quick Summary
On Rs.5L growing to Rs.12L in equity mutual funds after 10 years, LTCG applies. Gains above Rs.1 lakh are taxed @ 10%, resulting in Rs.62.4K tax. Sec 10(10D) is not applicable to mutual funds.

If your ₹5 lakh becomes ₹12 lakh in an equity mutual fund after 10 years, your total tax will be approximately ₹62.4K only. Equity mutual funds are one of the most tax-efficient long-term investments in India.

Apply sec 10(10)D
