How many prev years info can be asked by it dept!!

Dear all I want to know how many years information can be sought by Income Tax dept!!! Will there be any difference if the same is done after search and seizure.

IT dept.can call scrutiny of p.y. upto 30th sep.of next a.y. but he may also ask for records of last 4 p.y. by taking permission from additional commissioner. ....while in case of search and seizure he generally askd for last 8 p.y. records but he may calladditional

But he may call additional 8yr records (I.e. total 16p.y.) by taking permission from JCIT/ACIT......OKK
