The article is very informative. I completely agree with you that health insurance is necessary for every individual in India as it provides financial security during times of medical emergency. Also since India is a developing economy, people have limited income at disposal and thus limited premium paying capacity for health insurance policies. Central and state government needs to further up their efforts in promoting health insurance among people of India.

Towards the end you have compared health insurance policy offered in India with the rest of the world. However, I have a health insurance policy from Max Bupa Health Insurance which provides medical insurance in India. The maximum coverage available at Max Bupa is Rs 50 lakhs which is indeed very impressive and highest among other health insurance providers in India. Thus health insurance providers in India too are providing comprehensive health insurance covers.

When I first joined discussions like this, I was also looking for a straight answer on which health insurance to take. Over time, I realised the bigger issue isn’t picking a name, but understanding how a policy actually behaves in real situations. Most plans look similar on paper, and even experienced people can miss clauses that only show up during hospitalisation or claims.

Health insurance is a technical subject, and confusion usually comes from incomplete clarity rather than bad intent. For example, sums insured may look adequate today but feel tight once you factor in city-wise hospital costs or repeated treatments over time. That’s where many people feel disappointed later.

What helped me personally was evaluating my own policy instead of chasing recommendations. I used BimaScore with Bima Analyze, which gave me a clarity score between 400 and 1000 based on real-world factors, using simple inputs and no document uploads. It didn’t tell me what to buy, but it helped me see gaps early.

I’ve been following this thread and it reminded me of how confused I was when I first tried to understand health insurance. On paper, most policies look similar, but once you start reading exclusions, sub-limits, room rent clauses, things get messy very quickly. In my case, the agent wasn’t dishonest, but it was clear he didn’t fully explain how the policy would actually behave during a real claim.

What helped me was stepping back and evaluating my policy more objectively. I used BimaScore and later Bima Analyze, where I only entered basic details—no document upload—and it assessed my cover across a lot of real-world factors. The 400–1000 score gave me a surprisingly clear picture of where my policy was strong and where it could fail.

I feel tools like this can reduce misunderstanding and mis-selling simply by improving clarity. If you want to sanity-check your own policy, you can explore it here: https://bimascore.com/a8lmv6
