Kindly let me know whether gst is applicable on school fees. My brother studies in a CBSE board school and the teachers have told him that gst shall be charged on fees from this month.
Please share the relevant extract of law and circular, if any, regarding this.

GST on School Fees

As per Notification No 12/2017 CT, dated 28.06.2017, read with SECTION 11 of CGST Act 2017, Following Services are Exempted from GST :
(1). SERVICES PROVIDED -
(a). by an Educational Institution to its students, faculty and staff;
(aa). by an educational institution by way of conduct of entrance examination against consideration in the form of entrance fees [ 25.01.2018 ].
So the above explanation clearly states that no GST is levied on School Fees.
Hence, the Teacher's Contention regarding GST on School Fees is wrong.
