So, what is respect? According to Wikipedia, respect denotes both a positive feeling of esteem for a person or other entity, specific actions and conduct representative of that esteem.
Respect is a trait that everyone should have. But first, one may respect themselves in order to give respect to others. Respect goes a long way and it’s a two way process. There are many ways respect can be shown. For example, if I am in a classroom setting and a group of my peers are presenting a lesson I should give them my undivided attention. This means no talking, being attentive, and taking notes. It is rude to do the opposite of those actions. You should always look at it from another persons perspective and see how you would feel if you were being disrespected.
I feel that some people don’t show respect to others because of what is being taught in the household. It starts with the parents. One can not have respect for others when they are around their elders who are being disrespectful. Some parents tend to curse at or around their kids and the kids may pick up this habit. Cursing is very disrespectful. It tends to show that one may lack a good vocabulary.
When a person has respect for themselves and others it shows a sense of class and obedience. Respect should be shown at all times. Without respect one is bound to go nowhere in life. With that being said, no one can stress how important being respectful is. It is something everyone wants and something no one should want too lose.
