Hello friends,

I have been asked to file an excise return for a company. As I have no knowledge on filing of exice return, kindly enlighten me on the following matters :-

What are the documents that I should ask frm the client.?
What are the essential matters that should be kept in mind before filing excise return?
If the client is filing excise return for the first time, then what are the details that I should ask from him/ her?
How to start filing the excise return? ( the procedures, etc.)
What are the due dates and other compliances as such?
Last but not the least, what are the applicable market rates for filing an excise return?

Excise procedure is very delicate, pl. work on the job with somebody having practical experience in the department. Otherwise your client may suffer a lot.

Few Important things that are required before filing returns are

1) You should have HSN codes of the commodity that your selling to be mentioned in the returns.

2) If your claiming any exemption then the exemption notification number is required to be mentioned in the rerurns.

3) Complete stock details are required of the goods manufactured/despatched & closing balance.

4) The inputs that are purchased form the manufacturer/first stage dealers or second stage dealers are to be bifurcated.

5) Its better advised that the complete details are segerated & computed in an excel sheet.

6) The last date for filing returns for a normal assessee is 10th of the following month & for payment it is 5th by cheque & if online then it is 6th of the following month.

These are just few things that are to be considered.
