Hi Forum members,

I have got a query in my pan card. My pan card original got damaged and I need to apply a duplicate one. When I submit online application, I get a reply from pan card department saying that my fathers name is not matching with their records. Also online application asks for first name and last name as mandatory. But in tamilnadu, we have only first names. I dont know how did I submitted my original application in 2005. My pan card has only my fathers first name printed in it, but now they are asking for surname also.

Please help me with your views

In general case if father's name isn't matching, moreover if the surname isn't matching then an affidavit along with an advertisement in an official gazette is required to be submitted.
it's a lengthy process and takes 3-4 months time.

Thanks pallav, How can I know what is in their records. I can just enter the same so I can avoid the lenghtier process.

You can write them stating the with the necessary grievance.

See if you can login into the income tax portal and check your profile. Also check under Know your jurisdiction or Know your pan. or check in earlier year income tax returns.

Please check online PAN status, normally if we apply PAN if any changes than same will be intimate in PDF, if you check they will ask confirmation regarding change and if there is any change to previous data you have to produce document for change, otherwise you can opt as per income tax data and same to be send to NSDL. So that they will process your PAN Card

In case of a single name

You only need to write ur name in the surname column. And leave the first name column blank.

Get detail of how to apply for duplicate pan card and other detail like know your pan by name or dob, because no one can remember their 10 degit pan card number so they can use this facility provide by incometax department.

Hi,

You can just apply for the Duplicate PAN card and mention in the application the name of your father and your first name in the column of Surname in case you don't havee a surname.

This is because Surname is mandatory for PAN and not the first name per se.

So, make sure that the father;s name is consistent on all the documents you attach for getiing the Duplicate PAN card.

If it not, give a public advertisement in 2 recognised newspaper and it will be considered while issuance of duplicate PAN card.
