Hey USB Bhise,
This is a common issue with e-way bills expiring mid-transport due to delays or vehicle breakdowns. Here's what you can do:
-
Check validity: E-way bills are valid for 1 day per 100 km or part thereof from the start of the journey. If your e-way bill has expired during transit, it technically becomes invalid.
-
Generate a new e-way bill: Even though the original invoice is the same, you can generate a new e-way bill for the same invoice but only after canceling the expired one or showing the reason for delay in the new e-way bill.
-
Extension option: Alternatively, check if your GST portal provides an extension option for the existing e-way bill. Some states allow e-way bill extension in exceptional cases. This can be done on the portal if allowed.
-
Communication: Keep proper communication/documentation regarding the vehicle breakdown to justify the delay if required by tax authorities.
-
Inform the transporter: Ensure your transporter or driver informs you in case of any delay to avoid this problem in the future.
Summary:
You can generate a new e-way bill against the same invoice if the old one expired, but mention the reason properly. There's no need for a fresh invoice.
