Claiming medical expenditure for Senior Citizen who has health insurance

Dear Sir, 

Can I claim the medical expenses under 80D of my mother who is a senior citizen and needs some medications for her blood pressure and thyroid, when I have medical insurance for her? The medical insurance is beneficial only in the case when she is hospitalized for 24 hours or more.

Yes, If the expenditure is not covered in Health Insurance You can Claim medical expenditure upto 50k

Expenses paid by you or her ✅ Allowed

If your mother is a senior citizen (60 years or more) and does not have any health insurance policy, you can claim actual medical expenses incurred for her up to ₹50,000 under Section 80D, even if you pay the expenses yourself.
