Check the name availability for a New Company

Recently I saw a CA looking over the web for availability of aNew COmpany proposed to be incorporated. He was with a client who wanted to create a new prvate company and suggested some names. The CA went online and confirmed the availability ofthe name. All I wanted to know is where can this service be availed? Is it open only for Professionals or is there a government site where these procedures take place?
