Changes / correction in pan card

Dear All

I had recently shifted, and had to apply for change of address.  While doing so for other utilities etc, i also applied for change / correction in PAN Card.  Reasons : POI & POA is required with actual matching names.  And my application got rejected.

My name is VENKATRAMAN

My fathers name is VARADARAJAN

So, we being south indians, we use initials, so my name is shown as V VENKATRAMAN.  From school certificates, to college degrees, to billings, every where either its V VENKATRAMAN or VENKATRAMAN V ie last name_first name, or first name_last name.  So some reasons, the telephone bill MTNL is shown as VARADARAJAN VENKATRAMAN.    As per MTNL they follow, last name_first name convention.  But non of my other documents are in such naming convention.  I had sent two sets of documents, but they have rejected both these.

THEY SAY, INITIALS ARE NOT ALLOWED. How should i go about???  i am totally struck.  Neither they are allowing use of Initials nor they are allowing missouts of SURNAME and LASTNAME.   Atleast i can provide FIRST NAME as mine. But alas !!!  Rules.

I am sure many of the south indians would be facing the same problem.  If any one has come accross, similar issue, would be thankful if you could guide how to proceed.

Thanks in anticipation.

Meanwhile how is your name appearing in the old PAN card???

The rejection would be through a letter from nsdl that data as per IT Dept record and data as per application through email or post. You will come to know exact difference Provide the POI and POA as per data with IT dept.. If you want to update their data then will require change of name through gazette

Thanks Jayashree.  The name on the PAN is currently in expanded form.  The earlier one issued in 1994 was with initials V. VENKATRAMAN

Thanks Shivshanker.  But the question is i am not opting for a chance in name.  For the reasons, that IT wants the name in expanded format, does it mean that we need to go in for change thru gazatte.  This annoys me.  Then again i have to go thru making changes at all places, Bank Accounts, MFs, NSCs, FDs, Mobile Bills, Telephone Bill, Electricity, etc.

Cant i just show the first name as mine and last name as my dad's name.  Similarly, in my wifes' case the first name would be hers, while last name would be mine.

South Indians are discriminated by Income  Tax dept. They are forcing  all south Indians to expand their initials and asking ID & Address proof in expanded name which is impossible to produce. NSDL is refusing to update old records (issued during 1994) of mine also.

They are asking proof of my father's name in expanded initial ( My father has to reborn with expanded name !!!). Getting new PAN card is comparatively easier.

I donot know what proof our finance minister Mr. P.CHIDAMBARAM submitted for his PAN card.

You can catch hold of a Gazzeted officer and ask him to certify your name in expanded and address.
