Category B/D pop up after the file is e verified

after e verifying itr 3 ,there was a pop up stating category of defect B/D  with suggestions " kindly check whether the details of form 10IEA mentioned in schedule part A general is matching with the filed valid form 10IEA. Also check if the form filed earlier if any has become invalid for any reason '.

The itr3 was filed under old tax regime last year by filing 10IEA IN AY 25-26 . In ay 26-27 10IEA was again filed to shift to new tax regime .However while filling itr 3 in online mode while the new acknowledgement number of 10IEA was entered the assessment year continued to show ay  25-26 with no option to change.

on checking later on i find that some amendment has been made in the software and now the entry has to be done as date of filing of form 10IEA.

Since the returns are already e verfied ,please advise what should be done .

Thanking in advance.

What to actually do — since the return is already e-verified:

  1. Don't panic-refile yet. A pop-up defect warning at the time of e-verification is a system-generated caution, not automatically a Section 139(9) defective-return notice. Check the "Pending Actions" / "e-Proceedings" tab on the portal to see if an actual notice u/s 139(9) has been issued citing this defect — often it isn't, and the return processes fine despite the pop-up.
  2. Cross-verify both Form 10-IEA acknowledgements via e-File → Income Tax Forms → View Filed Forms — confirm the AY 26-27 form shows "Valid" status, and the AY 25-26 form isn't showing as "invalidated."
  3. If a 139(9) notice does land: respond within the given window (typically 15 days, extendable on request) by correcting the AY-linkage field in Schedule Part A-General — by then the software glitch may be patched, allowing the correct AY to be selected. This response is filed against the notice, not as a fresh revised return.
  4. If no notice is issued within a reasonable time and processing intimation u/s 143(1) comes through clean, no further action is needed — the pop-up was a soft validation warning that didn't escalate.
