Hi all,

While auditing a charitable trust i came to a scenario where a wip building is in process. The trust has purchased Rs:-10 lakhs cement for bulding the remaining work of new wip building which will be most probable completed in 2-3 years. So the cement expense which is used here , what can be it called ? Can we call it capitalisation of wip buiding ? or the word capitalisation can be only used after the completion of building ? the expense which has been done is moved to wip building account in balancesheet ? but what can we actually call the nature of expense ? is it capitalisation of wip building or what else can be it called ????

please reply

Actually, in such scenario, an architect's certificate with percentage of completion of the work helps to arrive at valuation for WIP. Remaining things can be current asset.

The building that shall be constructed shall be treated as a fixed asset after it has been fully constructed.

Hence, the expenses that shall be incurred has to be capitalised and treated as WIP in the financial statement.

YES . PRITY IS RIGHT.

The expenses that shall be incurred has to be capitalised and treated as WIP in the financial statement and after full completion of project, the total cost under wip will be transferred to Fixed Assets

Expenses which incurred towards cement that has to be capitalized as CWIP i.e Building under construction will be treated as CWIP (capital work in progress) once entire building construction over on that date it has to be move fromCWIP to Building Assets & Depreciation will start from the date of capitalisation in the books till that expenses will be under CWIP assets...
