I am logging into this forum after so many days and all I can see is a lot of demotivating posts about CA.
Disclaimer:- This post is a little long, you may need a lot of patience as it purely involves my opinions and experiences. This may not be relevant for every random person on Caclub.
The people who are posting all these are the ones who've no knoweldge of what they are saying about . I am not only pointing at that person's communication skills but also the wrong perceptions. The grass on the other side is not always greener.
As I am from science background, let me share how my world was in 11th and 12th when preparing for IIT JEE and other entrance examinations.
A major chunk of students were passionate about science though the coaching given at the coaching center was not up to the mark.
In lunch breaks,we used to talk about books which included genres like Ficton, Science Fiction and Non Fiction raning from Ayn Rand to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. We knew about ALS even before the ice bucket challenge.(You can guess it) And guess what, we even used to discuss about Warren Buffet and stock market. I borrowed a book on Economics from my friend to learn the basics.
Now my experience with commerce grads,
At the CPT level, a lot of commerce students were afraid of mathematics as the way they approached as wrong and they were literally cramming mathematics without knowing the concepts.
The teachers used to sing Bollywood songs and take examples from bollywood movies, which you are not supposed to do all this in a professional envioronment. (Except in drama reharsals, farewell and other occasions). There was no proper culture and the maturity level of students was very low and was comparable to the ones preparing for 10th boards.
The environment was better at the IPCC Level.
Orientation:-
One apt term for it would be "Time-Pass". The program is primarily aimed to convert an introvert into an extrovert. Though there were sessions on Communication skills, you cannot turn someone into a Native English speaker with those couple of sessions. It takes months for a few beginners to learn and write something grammatically correct.
And there was no dearth of bollywood , singing, dancing and Cheap Hindi jokes(I am here referring to the quality of jokes, not the language) in the Orientation session. ITT was better and productive, but it will not add anything to a CA's personality.
I've asked a few seniors about GMCS and they said it is an extended version of Orientation. I am today in CA, only to complete it to the IPCC level and then go for an MBA. I even took the CAT and currently preparing for the other MBA Entrances.
CAs are suffering not because of ICAI, but because of they themselves. They pay no attention to their overall personality and start blaming ICAI for every random thing.
CAs not only lack Spoken English but also verbal ability which is a prerequisite for a high position in corporate.
Attitude of CAs:- After passing CA, the entire world will lie at your foot.(As said by facutly of coaching centres who are known for spoonfeeding students with their amazing techniques). As an MBA aspirant, I've met a lot of IIMA/B/C grads and none of them had this weird mentality inspite of getting a pay over 20 lakhs right after getting graduated.
This attitude of CA is accompanied by overconfidence which is the root of getting rejected in the interviews.
The question will be "Do IITians and IIM grads. behave in the same way like CAs do after finishing CA?" Try having a conversation with those and let me know your views.
I wanted to add a little more, but has become too long now.
