Brief Profile of CA. Uttam Prakash Agarwal, President, ICAI
 
CA. Uttam Prakash Agarwal, FCA has been elected as the  President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) the apex body of the profession of Chartered Accountants in India for the year 2009-10 on 5th February, 2008. Having qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1987 and being in practice of the profession of Chartered Accountancy for about 2 decades, he has specialized in the area of taxation and management consultancy. As a prolific speaker, he has addressed various conferences, seminars and workshops, organized nationally and internationally and has authored books as well.
 
He is a Member of the Committee on Quality Control of South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA), an apex body of SAARC. He joined the Council in 2004 and has held Chairmanship of Committee for Members in Industry. He was also the Vice Chairman of the Committee for Members in Industry in 2005-06, Committee on Ethical Standards in the year 2006-07, and Vice Chairman of the Research Committee in 2007-08. He has also held the membership of the three Standing Committees of the Institute namely Disciplinary, Examination and Executive Committee. He was the Chairman of the Western India Regional Council in the year 2000 after entering the Regional Council in 1994. He has been the member of the Expert Group constituted by CBDT and has also appointed as arbitrator by National Internet Exchange of India and Bombay Stock Exchange.
 
He also holds Directorship in various companies and has been actively associated, for a number of years, with various professional and social associations. Articles contributed by him on various matters of interest and importance to the profession has been published in leading Journals.

Significant Achievements during 2000 as the CHAIRMAN OF WIRC.
  • Organized and attended over 175 conferences and seminars during my team as Regional Council Member.
  • For the first assisted the Government in collecting revenue of ground Rs. 2 Crores by providing extension counter of C LSS 2000 at WIRC and its Branches
  • Enhanced the utility of the WIRC Website by giving members the facility to download forms required for day-to-day practice
  • Pursued the formation of two new branches in the areas of Kalyan, Dombivali, Ulhasnagar and Vasai, Virar & Palghar
  • Organized an International Study Tour with a record number of participants
  • Pursued the formation of extension counters in different parts of the city to accept examination forms.
  • For the first time setup a Co-operative Clinic for solving queries of members and public at large.
  • A record number of Budget Lecture Meetings were held on various subjects of Interest to members such as Maharashtra Sales Tax amendments, FEMA, CLSS 2000, Rent controlled.

  • For the first time a book on study on Gujarat Sales Tax was published by WIRC
  • Started free coaching classes for the benefits of the students.
  • A number of new study circle were formed and old ones reactivated & a record number of book procured and added to the library.
