Auditor : appointed as director

I want to know whether an auditor can be appointed as the director of company or the director can be appointed as the auditor of the company. Sec 141 does not give any specification about this qualifiaction. Does anyone know the answer?

Please refer Clause 11 of Part I of Schedule First of The Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 for more clarity.
