The bitten, battered and abandoned two-year-old baby girl finally lost her battle with life at the All India Institute of Medical Science’ (AIIMS) Trauma Centre, with doctors declaring her dead at 9.40pm on Thursday. To lose her is a big shock.frowncrying

“She went into a sudden cardiac arrest around 9pm, and we tried reviving her for about 40 minutes before realizing it was futile, as she was not coming back. We officially declared her dead at 9.40pm,” said Dr Deepak Aggarwal, Associate professor, department of neurosurgery in the trauma centre, under whose care the baby was being treated for the past two months.

The baby girl had been admitted into the neurosurgery intensive care unit of the hospital on January 18, with severe head injuries, broken arms, bite marks over the body and cheeks branded with hot iron. Doctors had to perform a life-saving brain surgery immediately after her arrival and in all five surgeries were performed on her, including a shunt surgery to drain out water that was getting accumulated inside her brain.

She was on ventilator for more than a month, as she had problem in breathing, and had suffered severe lung, blood and brain infection. Doctors had tried various combinations of antibiotic to control the infection that had shown results and the baby was put off ventilator and shifted into a ward about two weeks ago on March 2.

Labeled as India’s miracle baby, as despite her critical injuries she was recovering well, has shocked doctors treating her. “She was doing fine, and we were not expecting this end after coming this far.

I think it is high time to fight for humanity and think like humans…:(no
