A small story but with a bigger message

A doctor entered the hospital in hurry after being called in for an urgent surgery. He changed his clothes and went directly to the surgery block. He found the boy’s father going and coming in the hall waiting for the doctor. Once seeing him, the dad yelled:

“Why did you take all this time to come? Don’t you know that my son’s life is in danger? Don’t you have the sense of responsibility?”

The doctor smiled and said:

“I am sorry, I wasn’t in the hospital and I came the fastest I could after receiving the call…… And now, I wish you’d calm down so that I can do my work”

“Calm down?! What if your son was in this room right now, would you calm down? If your own son dies now what will you do??” said the father angrily

The doctor smiled again and replied: “I will say what Job said in the Holy Book “From dust we came and to dust we return, blessed be the name of God”. Doctors cannot prolong lives. Go and intercede for your son, we will do our best by God’s grace”

“Giving advice when we’re not concerned is so easy” Murmured the father.

The surgery took some hours, after which the doctor went out happy,

“Thank goodness! Your son is saved!” And without waiting for the father’s reply he carried on his way running. “If you have any question, ask the nurse!!”

“Why is he so arrogant? He couldn’t wait some minutes so that I ask about my son’s state” Commented the father when seeing the nurse minutes after the doctor left.

The nurse answered, tears coming down her face: “His son died yesterday in a road accident, he was in the burial when we called him for your son’s surgery. And now that he saved your son’s life, he left running to finish his son’s burial.”

“From dust we came and to dust we return,

Blessed be the name of God.”

WOW… what a powerful story.

For the Doctor to be there to save a life when he had just lost his son. It shows we all need to think about our words and actions because we have no clue what others are going through.

Thank you Gautam da...never judge without knowing the reason and have patience to do ur duty with happinness.

I expect to pass through this world, but once;
Any good thing therefore that I can do,
or any kindness that I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now;

Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.

thanks for sharing such an awesome post.

Straight to heart...

Very nice message. Thanks and keep sharing.

Thanks for sharing such a practical story. This story has got 2 wonderful messages which we have forgotten in this materialistic lifestyle....

1. Its ease to curse and difficult to praise.

2. Only wearer knows where the shoe piches..

Nice moral in the story, thanks for sharing bhai..

" Drag your thoughts away from your troubles... by the ears, by the heels, or any other way you can manage it."

Very Nice Story with great moral........

We had to seriously introspect before judging others........

A word once spoken can never be taken back..........no

So we should be very careful while finding fault in others as we leave ourselves with no chance to explain or apologise to them.........enlightened

Thanks for sharing this beautiful story.........smiley

Thank you for sharing such a wonderful message through a beautiful story.....

The story reminds me of one scene from a Bengali movie named "Agnishwar" where Late Uttam Kumar played the role of Agnishwar - a Doctor. So far I remember, it was based on the true story of a Doctor. The scene goes like this :

Dr. Agnishwar was invited in a cultural fair. He was by nature very punctual. But that day, he came quite late. After the fair was over and the Dr. was about to leave, one of the organizers came forward and asked, " Doctor, if you please don't mind I would like to ask you about your delay today. Because, normally you are never late anywhere. May I know what happened? "

" Some time back, a very close relative of mine came to my home. Today she has departed. I went to see her off. Hence, the delay", the Doctor answered with a sad smile, and drove off.

Actually, he came straight from Burning Ghat after incinerating his dear, dead wife.

Your share, dear Gautam, may be a story, but it contains the flavour of reality, however cruel or rude that may be.

nice one,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
