Three key social security schemes – Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), and Atal Pension Yojana (APY) – have successfully completed seven years of operation. The three Jan Suraksha schemes celebrating their 7th anniversary are Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), and Atal Pension Yojana (APY).
These three social security schemes were launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on May 9, 2015.
PMJJBY and PMSBY provide access to low-cost life and accidental insurance cover, respectively, to protect citizens from unforeseen risks and losses.
APY offers an opportunity for individuals to save in the present to receive a guaranteed minimum monthly pension starting from Rs. 1000 to Rs. 5000 after the age of 60.
As of April 27, 2022, PMJJBY has over 12.76 crore enrolments, PMSBY has over 28.37 crore enrolments, and APY has over 4 crore subscribers.
Under PMJJBY, life insurance cover is available for less than 1 rupee a day, and under PMSBY, accident insurance is available for less than 1 rupee a month.
