It's a new service launched by the Finance Minister that allows eligible applicants to get a PAN card on a near real-time basis using their Aadhaar number.
Applicants who possess a valid Aadhaar number and have a mobile number registered with Aadhaar are eligible for this facility.
No, the instant PAN allotment process is free of cost, and an electronic PAN (e-PAN) is issued to applicants.
Applicants need to visit the Income Tax Department's e-filing website, provide their Aadhaar number, and submit the OTP received on their registered mobile number. An e-PAN is then issued.
A 'Beta version' of the instant PAN facility was started on 12th February 2020 on a trial basis, and it has now been formally launched.
During the trial period, the turnaround time for allotting an instant PAN was approximately 10 minutes.
