In the financial year 2019-20, a significant 49.87 crore individuals in India were covered by health insurance. This figure excludes personal accident and travel insurance policies. Provisional data for the first half of the 2020-21 financial year shows a substantial increase, with 30.22 crore people covered compared to 17.83 crore in the same period the previous year, indicating an impressive growth of 69.8%.
Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has informed that the total number of lives covered under health insurance business (excluding Personal Accident Travel Business) in Financial Year 2019-20 was 49.87 crore.
