Writing exams after an year. plz help

This is Harish from Chennai. My first attempt in CA Final exams (Old Syllabus) was back in Nov 08. I lost that attempt due to aggregate. Since then I have written 4 more attempts (till Nov 2010, all in old syllabus) and lost in all of them. Now I have both the groups pending and I didn't write the last 2 attempts, viz. May 2011 and Nov 2011. Now May 2012 will be my first attempt of CA Final in New Syllabus. Given below is the list of books followed by me for the exams -

Paper 1 - Accounts - MPV notes and work book. I attended his classes in 2007 and am still using the same book.

Paper 2 - SFM - Pattabiram notes and work book. Have an old edition of A.N. Sridhar's book which I used for last 2 attempts.

Paper 3 - Auditing - Padhuka's book.

Paper 4 - CLSP - Munish Bhandari (2008 edition)

Paper 5 - Costing and QT - Padhuka's book (attended SP's classes)

Paper 6 - MICS/ISCA - Study Material and MICS notes by Ranjith Jeyadevan (this book was recommended by my friend)

Paper 7 - DT - First 3 attempts Padhuka's book, Last 2 attempts T.N. Manoharan. (Am comfortable with TNM bcoz I used the same for CA Inter and in my last 2 attempts, have scored good marks with it)

Paper 8 - IDT - Book by K.Vaitheeswaran. (Have been using for all the attempts. Some of my friends suggest Sanjay Bangar's IDT book).

So can you suggest me some books to be followed in the new syllabus (paper wise) because I have been getting various ideas and not able to settle down with a good reference book?

As I am on leave, I am planning to start my preparations from first week of February for 10-12 hours a day and give a shot for all the 8 papers this attempt and come up triumphs. Also I am going to attend the rapid revision classes that is scheduled at the SIRC in the coming months. Is this preparation enough or do I need to do something extra.

Thanks to all in advance and ALL THE BEST FOR MY FELLOW STUDENTS who are going to attempt the May exams.

Hi Harish,

I am also like you going to write the exams after one year. As per your choice of books:

Financial reporting & SFM what you follow is good. you can follow the same also i think that you have attended the classes from MPV and Pattabi, so that is the best. just check whether any revision in the book or any addition or deletion of heading / chapters.

for auditing & costing - padhukas is good, but ensure that you are covering the updations or revision in syllabus in both the papers.

Law - munish bhandari is good, but get the updated latest book.

DT - TNM is good choice, please get the latest book and also get the institute supplimentary and case laws and amendments.

IDT - I dont know about Mr. vaitheeswaran, since i am following bangar. In this also u need to get the revised edition as well as supplimentary, caselaws and amendments from institute.

apart from the above you need to cover Accounting standard for which  most of the students follow rawat.

also ensure that you are going through the practice manual, compilation and rtp's for the last five years.

all the best.

Balaji S.

just purchase practice manual .... do it fully 3 times... DO NOT READ OLD BOOKS... even if u think u r comfortable with that book change it.... what do u mean by comfartable? comfortable to cover / read it? You are satisying yourself by reading those books, our aim is to satisfy the paper checker...  ICAI's expectations are much higher.... TNM is just OK  rather go for Vinod Gupta..

Leave the old methodology of study, otherwise u will get the same result as you used to get in old attempts. If ur studies are completed fully then only join the rapid revision batch, if u go without studying on ur own and thinking i will do study after the revision batch then it will only the wastage of time nothing else. You have only 90 days, if u r planning for both groups then start it on ur own... dont wait for revision batch... classes kitne bhi kiye to bhi jab tak hum khud nahi karte tab tak study nahi hoti...

Now ICAI has changed its trend of question papers, specially in costing (paper 5) concepts are need to be understood, purchase new module of Costing and ISCA, For DT- Vinod Gupta, IDT - Bangar is best. For all other subjects practice manual is sufficient.

So, if u want the same result like till nov 10 then do the same thing as u did in past, or if u want a different result then change ur study method and presumptions in ur mind. Do whatever just get passed, no one will ask how many attempts u took... u have to develop ur own method to pass...

best of luck...

Hi Harish,

The main book to crack Financial reporting is Study material and Practical manual.

Hello Harish,

I think u r working some where , so i think do not get the enogh time to study so its better to give only 1 group after good preparations rather than giving both group bcoz u have very less time so in this short time u cannot do the both group with job , so concentrate only on one group , preferably 1st group , bcoz its very easy as compare to 2nd

For books

Accounts - As per , please take the updated notes , bcoz there is much changes in the syllabus & also do the pratice manual

SFM - updated notes & pratice manual

Audit - Use old book & for new topics use the updated books & do pratice manual

Law - Use old book & for new topics use the updated books , bcoz u have the good command on the old books & pratice manual

u must have to do the pratice manual for all subjects for theory exam u can read only pratice manual

just do abc ABC analysis before preparing for studies & then study according to ABC analysis

for SFM - please do last year Examinaitons also

Be Confident

This time u will clear the Exams

Just Believe in You

U Can do it

Just Move Out form Your Comfort Zone

No Pain -------- No Gain

Thanks
