Priyanka Jain, congratulations on your extensive experience and starting your own CA practice! Working on a contract or assignment basis can be a great way to leverage your expertise in accounting, direct and indirect taxes, audits, and financial consulting.

If you’re looking to accept contract work successfully, here are some tips you might find useful:

1. Define Your Services Clearly

Specify exactly what services you offer on contract—e.g., tax audits, GST filings, income tax assessments, financial statement finalization, etc. This helps clients understand your value.

2. Draft a Clear Contract

Always have a written contract or engagement letter outlining scope of work, timelines, fees, payment terms, confidentiality, and termination clauses. This protects both you and your client.

3. Set Competitive Fees

Research market rates for contract CA work in your region. Since you have 10+ years’ experience, you can price accordingly but be mindful of startup clients or smaller firms.

4. Network Actively

Use platforms like CAClubIndia, LinkedIn, local CA associations, and business chambers to connect with potential clients needing contract or freelance accounting and tax services.

5. Keep Up with Compliance

Make sure you keep up to date with all professional and regulatory requirements, including GST, IT laws, audit standards, and CA practice norms.

6. Maintain Confidentiality & Professionalism

Since contract work often involves sensitive client data, maintaining strict confidentiality and professionalism builds trust and repeat business.
