Will Indian investors bear the brunt of Goldman's fraud

Secondary Mkt 953 views 1 replies

Goldman Sachs Group Inc was charged with fraud by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) over its marketing of a debt product tied to subprime mortgages that were designed to fail.

The lawsuit is the biggest crisis in years for Goldman, which emerged from the global financial crisis as Wall Street's most influential bank.

This law suit could mess up Indian investor’s sentiment and act as a cause for a correction. The SEC law suit could also prompt some selling in the market in stocks of companies in which Goldman Sachs has stakes. In India, Goldman mainly invests through the SEBI-registered FII route. The market was looking for a reason to correct and this could be that trigger for a profit taking.

In general scenario the stocks of companies in which Goldman Sachs holds stake, could witness heightened selling on Monday. Market estimates Goldman Sachs’ total investments in Indian stocks could be worth more than Rs 2,000 crore.

How to protect yourself from misleading or fraudulent Investment Schemes?

Every now and then, one gets to read some kind of fraud investment plans or fake how-to-get-rich-quick schemes. Having a deep thought over such incidents, we may realize that these scams are a reflection of our own over-attraction towards the investments, which yield good returns. But in such temptation of ours, have we ever thought of the danger or difficulty (risks) involved in the process
