they are not smart having money does not necessarily make you smart, they all have good jobs because of the way they were bought up, the way their parents taught them too have an education first, just like alot of asians education is important too the indian society. and so if you grow up in a family where eduction is first priority then yes you will get a job and be smart.
whites will say this is not true, but it is true indians are actually bought up to respect their familys and put education first so that they may support their future family, so they would most likely never disobey.
am not indian btw.

Indians value education, as Americans are more worried about image and small pecking orders within their own groups (moving up within their own networks).
Anybody, of any race can be smart, or focus on certain things. It's more of an difference of agendas.
Think about how important we Americans value our primary education system. Some will tell you a lot, but look how so many want to go to voucher systems, and alternative schools outside of public which was nearly unheard of 40 years ago.
My take on the average American public school is a daycare for kids, as both family member often work. Some go into advance placements (the smart kids), the others are pretty much offered diplomas if they serve their time. Many would say they were not just handed that high school diploma, but if they had to go head-to-head with most of schools in the world, they would like like ignorant brats. I hate to say that, but it's true. Things will change eventually.

well I would think it's because they care about money. and how do you get to money? you have a good education. most people that come from asian and have strict families live by this rule and drill it into their childrens heads and tell them if they don't have a good education you'll live on the streets. the schools in India, from what I've heard, are very strict as well, that maybe help in the reason why they are so smart

I'm Indian so I think I may know why.
Standards.
In India there are over a billion people which means to get the job that you want, you have to put in a little extra work. For most of us, we have only one chance to succeed. Competitive students in High School there wake up at 5, study, go to school, come home at 3, go to another school for further study and usually are around home at 8 or 9. Then of course many have jobs and all have home work. Well thats what it was like when I lived there a few years ago.
Also there's TREMENDOUS family pressure. Another thing, were not all super smart. In the US, you seem to see only smart Indians because mostly only the most educated and talented get here. Have you ever been to a 7-11?

Another case of perception. Yes, of course they are smart, just like everyone else.
Thing is, there are millions of them in India that are not doctors, CEO's etc.... and in fact are far more poor than the average American.
BUT, the successful ones (the "elite" Indians) can affort to leave the basicly third world country (it may have changed, it's been about 20 years since I've been there), often come here. So THOSE are the Indians you see. They are likely also the ones you pay attension to.
I take nothing away from the beautiful people of India, they are smart, and some not-so-smart, the same as us.
Thanks and be safe.

You must be an American like me! There are 1.3 Billion Indians in India. Almost all of them have a lower standard of living than Americans, so the ones that have the fortune of making it to American are exceptionally smart, exceptionally hardworking, and have had an err of good fortune.
In other words, there are so many that the only ones that make it here *ie. the only ones we see* are very, very intelligent.

have you been to india ?
the majority are poor and not much education
their are educated Inidans but you will find they have a different well of background then the majority of common indians .
Their is equal professionals in other cultures these just stick out in your mind when you see them in media because they are a different culture but you do realize how many other non whites have the same professions ( like asian )

I think you are simplifyins it by relating intelligence to ethnicity. In the Indian culture they have very supportive families and are often encouraged to work hard for the benefit of the family. That being the case many people of Indian descent have those values and do the work necessary to become professionals.

It's not about being more intelligent. It's about having more drive and determination. I've noticed that many of us in America have become very complacent and want everything in the blink of an eye. We also tend to reward mediocre behavior and achievements because we are afraid that good old competition will scar our children! Face it, we have it pretty easy over here. Being from a prosperous country has its advantages and disadvantages. Personally, I think many of us are just much lazier than peoples around the world!

The Indian culture respects and promotes intelligence and hard work, unlike our own, where forced equality keeps the achiever back with those who just don't care.
India is not the only culture with these values; Japan has similar values and the competition there is so great that underachievers are known to commit suicide rather than fail.

1.) Their parents strictly raise them to be disciplined.
2.) Where they are from, they do not have access to things we, americans, have that may cause them to be distracted (i.e. PS3's & other high tech gaming systems, Zunes & other music devices, materialistic items, the American media, etc.); therefore, their focus is primarily towards their school work.
3.) They have mainly healthy & well diets (they do not overly indulge in fast food & oily/sugary dishes the way we Americans do.).
And those things are carried to generation to generation.
Dispite all, they have ONE thing we (americans) primarily lack in...DISCIPLINE & RESPECT!!!!
Anything other than that, is completely out my hands. :-)

In India you are smart, poor, or lucky, so it's a huge priority.
Also smart Indians can get into college, and are more likely to come to the US, so you are exposed more to the smartest of the bunch.

The ones with a higher education and or degrees are no different than any other culture who had the means to become as such. The wealthiest Indian doctors are in the US and not practicing in India.
