Quick Summary
This discussion clarifies whether a son can claim a home loan interest deduction on his Income Tax Return (ITR) if the property is solely owned by his mother, even if he is a co-borrower on the loan. The general rule states that only the legal owner of the property can claim the deduction for home loan interest. Therefore, if the mother is the 100% owner, she is the one eligible to claim the deduction, not the son.
