When you go to the big firm like big4:

You will get a rich experience on that particular work... 

Can get a good stipend

Can get a good job with high package after completing your CA

When You go to the Small firm:

You will get less stipend

less audit experiance etc...

My suggestion is dont go for small firm at any case...

If you want to do job then go for Big 4 (Big firms)

or you wanted to setup a practice then go for medium firms where there is rich audit experiance and dont see for stipend (because it alwys less in medium and small firms).

Any other suggestions also be appreciated friends......

u shud surely join big 4...people who say that big 4 is nt so gud..u wont prepare for ca final and all ..its totally wrong..they just it becoz they want to be happy by syin dat as they dont have the quality to work in big 4

If you desire to work for 14-15 hours or even more in peak audit periods; then you can surely choose big four.

After marriage also; if you wish to continue such type of work; then surely choose big four.

The basic question is to make a good career through chartered accountancy course.

Hectic Audit Schedules will make you tough and this way you will be able to develop your capacity to work more in less number of hours.

Big Four Students can complete the syllabus in two months. The reason is : Most of the typical situation they already handle practically.  When you join such firms; then make sure that you are eager to work more otherwise you will be compelled to do work which will be a very typical situation.

In one student's  case; he did his articleship with E & Y and many times he came back from the office after 36 hours ! He qualified for CA in 4 attempts in CA Final ( Only Direct Tax was a great burden for him and due to this he could not clear CA easily). He was so much involved in audits during his articleship that he decided not to do this job in future. According to him - he did that much audits which he could do in his life if he was in practice.

The most interesting fact about him is, after qualifying; he started coaching in Direct Taxes ! This is an example how a career is built in CA when a subject is most typical for you.

First of all; decide what you want to be in your life. If you say  - I want to be a CA; then your answer is not correct. Example : one 50th Rank Holder in May, 2011 is still in search of good job !

If you wish to earn too much in life; then I say - No need to do CA. In Surat, property brokers are earning more than  CAs. By learning valuation of stocks; you can do the same which is the most suitable for lady candidates after marriage. More such avenues are there. By qualifying CA, not less than 50 different careers emerge. One of the most lucrative and emerging field is Education.

So plan for the whole life rather than qualifying CA and its training only.

Note : Big Four will definitely give you good exposure in training.

But for the sake for mental relief and reasonable exposure; you can join a firm where at least 4 CAs and 10 articled clerks are working.

Choice is yours.

In short; Chartered Accountancy course is to understand the basic needs of the business, its challenges, its development, its troublesome phases, tax administration and planning, finance, operational management, cost controls and ..............Accounting.

It is really very unfortunate that most of qualified CAs are also not in a position to judge the real value of Accountancy.

That is the only reason that the Institute has forced them to attend 30 CPE hours compulsorily and Accounting Standards have been included for CPE hours !

Now some questions open to the students : :

Can you say why you have joined CA ?

Because  -

My professor has suggested

or

My brother/sister did it very easily

or

Your most of the friends are doing 

or 

It is good ( without knowing what is good )

or 

Good job is easily available

or 

You are ready to study more and more even after doing CA because reading is your pleasure ( DISA, DIRM, VALUATION CERTIFICATE COURSE, IFRS etc.).

I will run my own practice ( not decided now in which area )

or 

I wish to join Big Four only

CAs earn good money

etc.etc.

What i wanted to say is..i don't think so everyone will get work in BIG4..so preferrably it would be suggeted to join any medium sized firm or even lesser size firm..i believe whether the work exposure is short or big that doesn't make any matter..

Learn the work what u have given..and don't compare whether it is big firm or the small firm..anyperson who is interested in doing work and interested in getting exposure can get anywhere..

I also want to post you my views. May be those are not so great but you can use them for your perusal. Let me describe you my situation. I always got fascinated with science. Everybody used to praise me that I will become a scientist because of my interest and my deep knowledge in Science. The reason being that I learnt many parts of it on my own due to lack o f proper teaching. I have chosen CA because one of the coaching institution in my city offered me free coaching till I complete CA from class 10. I have done CA only to reduce any burden on my family. Once I have completed I got job so easily.To be fair, I have passed in 1st attempt but I have 2 offers in hand...1 in government company and 2 as an Equity Research Analyst. I left Government company where the profile is Assisstant Finance Manager. I opted for Equity Research. But soon I got disinterested with the way things are moving. I will do work just for money because thoughts of us can rarely meet in reality. I didn't understood why people make things so complex and market it to earn money. I can work for money but can't sell my heart for that thing. 

I decided that may be that is not my cup of tea. I jumped to a Big4. Work here is the audit of investment companies of US. Here, I have lost my festival days for work. I felt very disheartened. Still decided to learn something from the work coming even on saturdays and sometimes working even on Sundays from home. I am getting a very huge pay but still I can only feel that I am not doing any productive task that will be useful for my country.

Finally, I decided on a few points and about to leave my job:

1)  India is going to become the largest economy in the world and I strongly believe that.

2) Any business set up in india now can have possibility to grow as much as possible.

3) Just compare India and US and the incoming China...........how big we can grow.

Conclusion.........What ever you do 

1) Job  2) Good firm 3) Education 4) Big4 5) Chota firm..................Leave everything and just follow your heart blindly. Nobody can guide you better than that.  Don't try to comprise on anything especially life. Now is the time for every indian to just explore life than plan anything. What you want is more important than big4 where life is always restless (BIG4 culture: They say they have a culture. If you join here, you simply lose your culture.)

Completing CA is most important and if you think BIG4 can make a real difference to your life then just go for BIG4 after CA. This is the time you can enjoy afterwards if you want to enjoy, your life will be at dead end. Just enjoy and study well.

I am totally agree with Surendra sir, Big4 is not at all good option for article ship, mdisize firms is the best for good exposure and for good knoweldge..In midsize firms you can learn diff kinds of work where as in Big4 only one field can learn and its very hectic work..Even who working midsize firms can get good jobs and good positions in corporate world, there is noting like rule you should work in Big4 itself for job purpose..Rest depends on you..
