There are lots of corporate and income tax cases pending in courts. Time to time they have been decided by the courts after hearing the parties. These cases are used in future as precedent/examples (Misal) in similar kind of cases.
In exams practical questions are asked based on latest and old case laws. So it is desirable to have the knowledge and understanding of latest and old case laws to answer exam questions.
