Hello to CA CPT passed students!!

Welcome to 1st day of CA IPC :P

Let me make you familiar with some interesting facts about CA IPC:

1.      As you know there are no colleges for CA students so we do not have fresher party, fests or any farewell party.

2.      You might feel very low or depressed during your study periods.

3.      Sometimes you might feel why choose CA, there are many better options.

4.       If you are taking classes (especially outside your Hometown) you will miss your home too much.

Remember one thing CAs are CA. No one can match our quality. Just always keep in mind you are here to become No.1 professional in world.

Now I am also attaching some basic guidance which will help you during your 9 months study period.

Please note that CA IPCC now it's CA IPC or Integrated Professional Course or just Intermediate.

Introduction to CA IPC

There are 9 subjects in CA IPC arranged in 7 subjects.

1.      Accounting (AS + Chapters)

2.      Law (Company Law, Business Law, Business Ethics and Business Communication)

3.      Cost Accounting and Financial Management (2 subjects – combined into 1)

4.      Taxation (Income Tax, Service Tax and VAT)

5.      Advance Accounting (AS + Chapters)

6.      Auditing and Assurance (SA + Chapters)

7.      Information Technology and Strategic Management (2 Subjects – combined into 1)

Best books (based on personal experience)

1.      Accounting

Refer Praveen Sharma Sir Notes (not available in market take help of any friend who is taking his classes) + Praveen Sharma Sir Books + Videos (available in Market, but they are pirated)

2.      Law

Refer Munish Bhandari for Company and Business Law

Refer Ajay Jain Sir Book for Ethics and Communication

3.      Cost Accounting and Financial Management

Sorry don’t have idea (search on CCI) – lots of other good suggestions are available

4.      Taxation (my favorite subject)

Income Tax – Refer any book for understanding (VKS, TN Manoharan or Girish Ahuja are some famous Authors) + VKS (for Practical Questions)

Service Tax and VAT – Refer Ajay Jain Sir Book.

5.      Advance Accounting – Same as for Paper 1

6.      Auditing and Assurance

Refer Surbhi Bansal Book + Notes (notes are available on internet for free, but they are pirated)

7. Information Technology and Strategic Management

For Information Technology – Refer Dinesh Madan Sir Book and Notes

For Strategic Management – Refer ICAI Study Mat. OR P.S. Rathore Sir Book

For ITSM – You can refer ITSM Videos (available in market, again they are pirated)

Additional Suggestion –

1.      Must refer ICAI Practice Manual for theorical subjects like Law, Audit and ITSM.

2.      You can also get suggestion on books and preparation strategy by searching on CCI.

3.      Golden Opportunity – ICAI has conducted webcast for CA IPC students. In this webcast leading faculties of India are providing a free lecture on how to prepare for CA IPC. They are really helpful must refer them at least once.

4.      For IT you can also join IT training because they teach you IT with practical knowledge.

Both Groups vs. Single Group

1.      Ranks are awarded only to those who have attempted both groups

2.      Big 4 (explained later) and other good firms give preference to those who attempted both groups for Articleship.

3.      But generally pressure is very high in both group and very less in Single Group. This is only advantage of Single group.

4.      Group 1 has 4 exams and Group 2 has 3 exams.

Coaching Institutes and their role in CA students life

Today, there are lots of Classes available for each subject.

First let me tell you Coaching are not the only key to crack CA exams.

But still if you are thinking to join classes remember following points before joining them.

1.      Don’t get fool by attractive Discounts offered by coaching institutes.

2.      Don’t go to teacher who has more RANKS or STUDENTS but go to those on whom you can rely.

3.      Try to take some demo classes before joining classes.

4.      Don’t ignore even a single mistake by Institute on first day because it might continue till last day.

If you are staying in North India I can suggest you some good teachers:

Accounting – Praveen Sharma Sir

Law – No particular teacher (all are good)

CAFM – Ashish Kalra and RK Mehta

Taxation – Ajay Jain and MK Gupta

Advance Accounting – Praveen Sharma Sir

Auditing and Assurance – Surbhi Bansal and Veekkas Kapoor

Information Technology (IT) – Dinesh Madan and Veekkas Kapoor

Strategic Management (SM) – P.S. Rathore

Practical Subjects and Theoretical Subjects

Accounting, CAFM, Advance Accounting – Practical Subjects

Law, Audit and ITSM – Theoretical Subjects

Taxation – Mixed Subjects

Theoretical Subjects –

How to prepare theoretical Subjects?

Ø  Use following techniques to learn theoretical subjects:

1.      Mnemonics – in Ethics and Communication, Audit and SM – you can use mnemonics to remember headings or points. (eg. – ICAI – Inquiry , Calculation, Analytical Review, Inspection)

2.      Hinglish – you can use mix of your regional language (eg Hindi) and English to remember any answer because we are more familiar with Hinglish (all thanks to fb, We Chat)

3.      Poem – Try and make some poem by using headings of any answer and recall it everywhere you go.

4.      Flowchart – If any answer goes in a flow (like if this happen then this will occur otherwise this will occur)

Ø  Prepare Notes in your handwriting and own words from exam point of view.

Ø  Your notes should be sufficient so that you need not to refer any other reference at exam time and should be also very concised so that you can revise them in a single day before exam.

Ø  Revise them periodically, for theoretical subjects it is mandatory that you should revise periodically because at exam time you have very less time for theory.

Practical Subjects-

According to me, “theoretical subjects are required to clear your exams but practical subjects make your marks attractive”

You can score even 100 in practical but it is very difficult to score even 80s in theory.

How to prepare Practical Subjects?

You need to follow only 3 steps – Practice, More Practice and Lots of Practice.

            No shortcut for practical subjects

Taxation-

Taxation is a mixture of Practical and Theory concepts. So I will suggest you first draw a basic idea about whole taxation then go and make some notes of each subject.

You notes must include all the important assumptions, limitations, interpretations etc

My notes for tax were so small that I was able to revise whole Taxation in just 7 hours. My notes were completed only in 30 pages.

Case Studies in our course:

Law – As per trends since last 6 attempts except last attempt (May 2013) there were no questions asked on case studies but remember there is NO Official announcement that no such case studies will be asked. So don’t follow trend, ICAI can ask case studies or can ignore case studies.

Audit – Same with Audit since last 6 attempts there were no questions asked on case studies but again no official announcement as such.

SM – No Case Study will be asked Nov,2012 onwards as per announcement by ICAI. Many students have myth this is done to make SM exam easy but no this is done because now in place of case studies they can ask more questions.

Remember Professional exam covers 100% syllabus
