WAY To Go

A probationary officer with the State Bank of India, he rises to become its Deputy General Manager. Posted to USA and having travelled extensively to different parts of the world, he picks an amazing repertoire of knowledge and experience.

The banker at heart, now in the evening of his career, gives it all up t join a non-banking finance company. A few years later, at age 57, he resigns so that he could pursue a ‘Childhood Ambition’. Believe it or not, he decides to do CA; yes, Chartered Accountancy. His friends look at him with askance; their body language tells it all!

Undaunted, he goes through the contours of Article ship, does everything that a wannabe CA would do, toils upwards in the night for exams, battles with mind that are about 40 years younger than his. And in January 2002, days before he turn 60, he becomes a Chartered Accountant!

That`s S.D.BALA, the man who proves that what can be imagined can be achieved, the man who bested the examiners in their own game.

Shouldn`t that be the inspiration for you?

S.D.Bala is Co-author of SFM book.

Note: Seen in CCI so many asking can we do CA in this age, there is no age to fulfill your dreams and your ambition. If have interest and want to be a CA then go ahead and get inspire seeing the Mr.S.D.Bala sir achievement.

Meet INDIA`S Best-Known anchorman. Until he descended on the scene, we thought that the deadpan way Doordarshan presented news was the way news should be presented. He changed it all with a professionalism that is hard to match. So much so that, today, everyone is sold on his news channel. That`s the president and chief executive officer of NDTV, PRANNOY ROY.

What would you think of a person who, in a nation that worships its cricketers and iconises its film stars, is a celebrity in his own right? You would think that he graduated from a film institute. The director of the heart-stopping movie, Masoom, the pulsating film Bandit Queen and the award winning Elizebeth, SHEKHAR KAPUR is the man over whom Hollywood swoons.

Once known as an investigative journalist, his exposes in the Indian Express set in motion the chain of events that brought down two national governments. His crisp, analytical, no-nonsense writing, backed by surfeit of authentic information, mean that S.GURUMURTHY was a person who could not be trifled with.

He got into the hot seat when his dad died under tragic circumstances, and he himself had hardly turned 30. Can a rookie rudder through the professionals of the ADITYA BIRLA group of companies, people asked. Today, nobody doubts the credentials of KUMAR MANGALAM BIRLA; widely regarded as one of India`s top business leaders.

Would you fancy your chances of rising to become the head of an automobile major? That is, if you did not have the technical background or if it wasn`t pap`s business? Perhaps not. But R.SESHASAYEE was made of sterner stuff. From internal audit to corporate planning to manufacturing and finally to managing directorship of Ashok Leyland Ltd, the climb has been meteoric.

Whenever the government or the stock exchange watch dog SEBI wants to set up a committee on any matter connected with finance, one of the first persons that it turns to is the suave, soft-spoken Y.H.MALEGAM, Senior Partner, S B Billimoria 7 Co, part of deloitte, Haskins & Sells, the big-four public accounting firm.

When you think of the software industry, you think of him. The tech evangelist with the Elvis Presley looks; he built a bridge between geriatric members of successive governments and the software industry. When died at the impossibly young age of 38, the who`s who of the software industry lined up at his funeral, that was the charismatic DEWANG MEHTA, an institution in his own right.

She is India`s top women banker. A flamboyant walk up the corporate ladder means she is within striking distance of cracking the glass ceiling at the HSBC Bank. Now it`s HSBC country Head. That would make her the first woman to do so. Meet NAINA LAL KIDWAI, name by Fortune International as one of the 50 most powerful business women outside United States.

These are success stories without doubt. But why talk of them here, you might ask. Well, each one of them Chartered Accountant by qualification! A news anchor, a movie director, a journalist, a business tycoon, a corporate executive, a tax consultant, a software evangelist and an international banker –all CAs-the sheer breadth of it is breath-taking!

Thanks for sharing the info. I've completed MCA (Master of Computer Applications,2008 Batch) and presently working in one of the reputed IT Companies in the country.I cleared my CA Inter alongwith MCA 2nd Sem,i.e., 1st year and as MCA was a regular course,so couldn't go for the final exam with articleship training. I've lost 4 years after my Graduation.1 year and 4 months again lost after completing MCA due to delay in joining as a consequence of recession. Now,I am 32 years of age.Have 3+ years of work experience in IT. After completing CA Final course I'll be of 35+ years.I am really anxious about whether I'll be able to get a job at that age or not...Will there be problem in getting into Corporate Sectors as a Fresh CA at that age? CA Institute doesn't restrict me from completing CA Final. From the following link -

-- the article written by Vivek also encouraged me.But, Firms are not interested to accept my candidature due to the gap after CA PE-II. In the above link, it is said that Companies should not consider the age and all, but I get a different picture while even thinking of studying and completing the course.

Anyone of you mentioned here can be a role model for not only ca students but also CAs.

Just on focus on your Final exams now and clear off, you will get good jobs. Nothing to worry u have lots of experience and mainly you will be having one masted degree and one professional qualifiacation which will help you lot.. You will be good in Technical and in Accounts too. So companies can get good hand from you and just be confident..

Now only think of exams rest leave it to god...
