Want to surrender pan card

Hi All.

I lost my wallet in year 2008 and I thought I lost my PAN card also so I contacted an Agent who charged 150 Rs. to apply for a PAN card.I gave him my photo and license copy.

But the PAN card I recieved had My Real Name but different Father's Name different Date of Birth and entirely different PAN number but now I have found My old PAN card so I want to surrender the other PAN card with wrong details because I have never used it for any kind of banking activities.

Would there be any panelty for that and I think that Agent had put somebody else's details in the form because the signature on the PAN card are not Mine.

Waiting for your Expert Comments and Feedback.

Kinds Regards,

Lalit Sharma

Hello Lalit Sharma Holding more than one PAN card is an offence and it would lead to a penalty upto Rs.10,000/-. When you lost your PAN card you have to intimate it to the income tax Department for the purpose of cancelling it. Now you have two PAN cards. you should surrender the unused PAN by logging into ITD website at www.incometaxindia.gov.in.

Hello Hemanth,

I contacted the agent and he got me that new PAN card with different details which I never used because I had my old PAN number and I file my ITR with that. So still is it an offence

Hello Lalit, It would be better to surrender the unused PAN card and be at the safe side.

Hi Members is there any other advice for me...

U  can write to ur AO and surrender the unwanted PAN.

But u can also surrender through online mode, it seems.

The link is :

https://incometax.sparshindia.com/pan/newPAN.asp

Disclaimer :

Though I haven't tried this mode so far, i believe trying this is harmless.

The suggestion is experimental.
