Depends on state...!!
and also You need to give more details.. which state, scheme of registration. VAT/COT, filing of returns Monthly/Quarterly. Etc.,
However in Karnataka following are the details.
For Regular VAT Monthly Filers : 20th of everymonth is the due date without penalty.
for COT monthly filers (Like for Works Contractors, Hotliers etc.,) : 15th of everymonth is the due date.
For all other (VAT/COT) quarterly filers : 15th day of succeeding month of every quarter.
eg: Apr to Jun Qtr : 15th July is the due date
July to Sep Qtr : 15th Oct is the due date... and so on...

Rs.100 per Day for VAT Return and Rs.100 for CST Total Rs.200 per day if Dealer is registered in both CST and VAT.
If Dealer is registered in vat only than Rs.100 per day
