Kindly let me know what is the "Unique Transaction Number" to be fill up in filling up TDS details from assessment year 2009-10.

First of all let you know that for A.Y 2009-10 , there is no need to fill up the UTN no. in the return. Income tax deptt. has ro notify its date of effectiveness.
UTN no. is unique transaction no. which is automatically generated for each transaction at the time of filing of TDS return ( Like Acknowledgement no.). At the time of issuance of TDS certificate employer has to mention such UTN no on the certificate . So that when any person going to file his return on the basis of TDS certificate then his return will be auto checked by system on the basis of UTN no.
This method gives deptt more information about the deductor as well as bout the deductee.
