Transfer of your return of income to jurisdictional Assessing officer

ITR 601 views 6 replies

I received an email from the Income Tax Department with the subject "Transfer of your return of income to jurisdictional Assessing officer ".

email has attachment mentioning that "Credit for tax payments made outside India claimed in the return, which can not be verified by CPC".

I mentioned my South Africa foreign income under FSI section during filing ITR-2. I am worried about the next step. Do I need to back to India for clarification?

Pls advice.

What is residential status in ITR2
what type of income it is I schedule FSI ?
pl reply

Residential status - NRI.

Under schedule FSI I mentioned

South African salary (after converting it into Indian rupees + Indian income in rupees),

Tax paid in South Africa ( after converting into Indian rupees) and

exemption of tax relief under article 90 of DTAA.

For NRI , foreign income not to be included in ITR. Only Indian income is taxable for NRI.
How come you did so ?

For which AY you are talking about ?

My bad, I thought that I must mention it under FSI, my mistake. The assessment year 2019-2020.

Is it having any further consequences? what should be the corrective action?

You can immediately file revised return as a NRI Non-resident status taking Indian income only.
