A registerd  person shall not be entitled  to take  ITC  in respect  of any  invoice or debit note  for  the suply of goods or service or both after the due date of furnishing of the retrun under section 39  for the month of  September following the end of the financial year to which such invoice  or invoice relating to such debit note pertains or furnishing of  the relevent annual return , whichever is earlier .

my doubt is if I have Rs. 1 lakh itc as per itc credit ledger in March 18. can I carry over that credit to the next financial year?.

Yes. You can carry forward the excess credit to next financial year.

ITC CAN BE AVAILED WITHIN 180 DAYS FROM THE DATE OF INVOICE

okay

my doubt is, if I have any input tax remained in itc credit ledger in March 2018. can I carry over that credit to the next financial year.

or it automatically carry forward to this financial 18-19 in ITC auto-populated in GSTR-2A

For ITC to be eligible -

  • It should be in the course or furtherance of business; and
  • It should not be restricted credit under Section 17; and
  • Ensure that tax has been paid to the government; and
  • It should reflect in GSTR 2A of the recipient; and
  • Payment to the vendor to be made within 180 days from invoice date. (if not reverse, and re-claim once payment made)

Once such ITC satisfies all the above criteria and reflects in the Electronic Credit Ledger, there would be no time limit for carry forward of such credit.

thanks

The time limit prescribed i.e., (the due date for filing of return for Sep of following FY ) is applicable only for availment of ITC.

No time limit for c/f of credit and can be utilised for any GST liability of the same registration.
