Dear All,

Can you please explain me the procedure to obtain UTN for issuing TDS certificates,

Also need to understand, what if i've already received form 16A in old format without any UTN from the deductors - does it mean that i won't be able to file my ITR for A.Y. 2009-10 till the time i get UTN from those respective deductors.? AND can i issue 16A to my suppliers without quoting UTN now ?

1. UTN are not yet issued by the department. Once the new TDS provisions are notified, UTN will be sent to deductor by e mail in respect of TDS deducted during FY 2008-09 provided quarterly TDS returns are filed.

2. You can download the UTN in respect of those Form 16A from NSDL website. You can file ITR return without UTn but it is recommended to file the returns only after getting UTN.

3. You can issue Form 16A without quoting UTN. Later when you obtain UTN, you can send a statement of UTNs to the deductee

the new rules regarding TDS WILL BE APPLICABLE ONLY FROM ASST YEAR 2010-2011 SINCE THEY WILL BE APPLICABLE FROM JULY 1ST 2009
