Tds not updated in 26as - course of action

Hi All, My clients' 26AS is not showing correct position of Tax deducted at source by its bankers on the interest on fixed deposits. The delay is due to their internal communication and reconciliation problems because their tax advisors are at some other place - because i hope such large bank will not make wilful default on tds payments of few lac rupees. We have approached branach accountant and branch manager number of times but they seem to be failing "to do needful" and say "it is not in our control". Their regional office says "pls co-ordinate with branch". Can i as tax auditors or at least my clients, make an official representation to the income tax department to send them instructions or enquiry then automatically things may fall in place.

First of all it is the duty of Bank to verify that proper TDS is deducted by them and proper TDS return is filed by them. The statement made by them that it is not under their control is totlaly no correct. It is Branch's duty to file the tds return. If thr tds return is outsourched by them then also they are fully responsible for the correct filing of TDS return.

In your case you may file complain against bank branch  to banks ombudsman
