Tax treatment - joining/signup bonus returned to the employer on exit

386 views 1 replies

Hi,

I have joined a company in April 2022. I received a joining bonus of 1,50,000 INR on condition that the payment has returned if I leave within a year. The amount received after TDS was 1.05L. I have left the job in September 2022 and am returning the amount to the company. Can something be done by the employer  to help out with the tax return during ITR? Will they be able to make the adjustments now so that when issuing form 16, this payment is not reflecting as earned salary?

Thanks in advance.

Generally they wouldn't take it as Income. But you might have to inform and have clarity about it.
