Tax rebate on money sent home

Tax queries 688 views 1 replies

  Hi,

I would like to know whether I can claim tax benifit on the money sent to my mother. I am working in a reputed MNC and have been sending money home everymonth to my mother after the death of my father.

So I have following queries related to this

1. Can I claim Tax benifit on the money sent home. If yes, under which section I can claim the benifit. My mother is homemaker and she doesn't have any other source of income apart from the money I have been sending.

Assuming I can claim tax benifit

2. What is the maximum tax benifit I can claim?

3. Does my mother has to pay any tax on the money she receives?

4. If the tax benifit is there will it be considered as a part of Rs 1 Lakhs which I can claim by investing in various tax saving schemes or it is a separate benifit?

Thanks and Regards

In my opinion, the money sent by you to your mother is application of income. Hence, you are not entitled to any benefit under the Act. No tax liability is attracted in the hands of your mother
