We are the manufacturer of pulses, currently there is 2% of mandi tax and 0.5 % vikas cess total 2.5% on pulses in U.P.. What will be the status of this tax after GST. In present when we purchase pulses from Maharastra or M.P. we have to pay mandi tax to their state and when we process that pulses in our state U.P. and sale it to Uttarakhand then we have to pay mandi tax to U.P. and then Uttarakhand also imposes mandi tax on that pulses, so mandi tax on pulses is imposes on every state. Pl. tell us about the status of mandi tax after GST as our govt. says one nation one tax.

Yes, but mandi tax is going to remain even after GST.......

Respected Sir,

It has already been suggested............. and is under negotiations with the local market operaters like APMC board.....

In GST mandi tax is not subsumed, it is like a local tax, which will be there after GST.

What you mention is correct One nation one tax. But this according to me is local tax collected by mandi, for which there should be represtation with local APMC or State Government to take care such a practise.

Such practise may increase cost of the product and having no credit of the same on futher transaction/supply.

ONE Nation ONE Tax. only gst
. Mandi tax is the real devil in uttar pradesh , we don't accept mandi tax in gst

Agree with Navneet Gupta......

Sir

Can you please guide me whether Mandi Smiti can raise demand against a businessman?

Yes......... They work as per APMC Act of 2003

The APMC Act treats APMC as an arm of the state and the market fee as the tax levied by the state, rather than as a fee charged for providing services, which acts as a major impediment in creating a national common market.   Various taxes, fees/charges and cess levied on the trades conducted in the markets or Mandis are also notified under the APMC Act.  APMCs charge a market fee from buyers, and a licensing fee from the commissioning agents who mediate between buyers and farmers. They also charge small licensing fees from a whole range of functionaries (warehousing agents, loading agents etc.). In addition, commissioning agents charge commission fees on transactions between buyers and farmers. The levies and other market charges imposed by states vary widely.
