Status of additional director

An aditional director is appointed in a private limited company running by 2 ordinary directors. but after his appointment one of the Ordinary director resigned from the company.

the question is that what is the status of additional director after the resignation of ordinary director ? whether it works as additional director only till next AGM or something else?
