Short term capital loss on debt mutual funds

Hi,

While filing Income tax returns, where do we show the short term capital loss on debt mutual funds (ITR 2)? Do we show it under the head Capital gains or under Income from other sources? Can we carry forward the loss and if yes, for how many years?

Thanks

Karthik

Show it under the head Capital gains...and Such capital losses can  be carried forward to a maximum of 8 assessment years, immediately succeeding the assessment year for which the loss was first computed.

You can carry forward the same for 8 Asst years, show it as a negative figure in the STCG column. Then show the same in Carry forward of losses for set off in future years.

YES I AGREE WITH DEEPESH

This loss would be shown as Short Term Capital Loss

But where in ITR2 can we show short term capital loss, which row.. its not taking negative figures.. its say negative figures to be ignored... kindly be explicit and state the sheet and row... what about the receipts for this and what about the expenses for this.

Where is the column and you cannot enter negative figure..so kindly tell which row and which sheet of ITR4 this has to entered

But supposing you did FNO then you have to fill ITR4 and over there this same short term capital loss on debt mutual fund becomes a Business loss?

Perplexed!

Show in the cap gains sheet, the amount of consideration and cost of acquistion. Obviously, the FVC<COA, hence, there will be a short term capital loss.
