Both are different kinds of wealth creating investments.
It all depends upon your own choice, needs and appetite.
Main difference is shares are easily encashble as compared to agricultural land; at the same time land has almost nil risk factor, while earning revenue.

If your shares are long term holding........ you may not have to pay much tax over LTCG from it after grandfathering effect...........
While no tax liability over purchase of land except stamp duty & registration.
Of course, no tax exemption available over land purchased.
