According to Section 80Dof the Income-Tax Act, a taxpayer can claim a deduction of Rs 50,000 towards medical expenditure incurred on himself or a family member who is a senior citizen. However, the deduction can be claimed only if the person for whom the expenditure is incurred is not covered by health insurance
Deduction available up to Rs 50,000 in case medical insurance premium paid himself or on behalf of family member who is a senior citizen. For Medical expenses(i.e Preventive health check up), Max deduction available under section 80D up to Rs 5,000.
