Revising entries in 26AS

588 views 2 replies

Dear Sir/Madam,

Today I checked my 26AS database on tin-nsdl website. I found that bank has made mistake

in entering Interest Paid in many entries. It had also deducted more TDS (should be 10% but

deducted 20% even though they have my PAN number). I have not yet filed the IT Return. Is it

possible that bank can correct these (Interest paid & TDS) in 26AS & refund me the additional

TDS. Can extra TDS be returned even if they have not paid TDS to IT Department? If this can

not be done, can they at least correct the Interest paid before issuing me the TDS certificate.

If any thing can be done, then kindly let me know the procedure so that I can discuss this my bank

as I am not sure if they know the procedure for it.

Thanking you. Best regards, RAKESH

IF TDS PAID SHOWN IN 26AS THAN IT MEANS THE BANK HAVE ALREADY DEPOSITED THE TDS AND FILED THE RETURN.

BETTER TO CLAIM THIS AFTER FILING RETURN

Thanks for your reply. I found that the interest paid shown in 26AS is also wrong. Can the 26AS entry

be revised at least to show correct interest paid. I will give you an example of what they did.

First they deduct TDS @ 20% & then they doubled the Interest paid value compared to actual interest paid.

This way TDS automatically becomes @ 10%. For example if actual Interest paid was1000, they

deduct TDS200/- @ 20% & in 26AS they entered TDS as200/- but also entered Interest paid as

2000/- so effective TDS looks 10% only. Now, how can I claim the Refund? For this they must

provide me TDS certificate showing Interest paid as1000/- & TDS200/-. But this will cause

another problem of Unmatched entries (U Flag) as in 26AS Interest paid is shown as2000/- &

TDS as 200/-. Can they issue a TDS certificate showing Interest paid1000/- & TDS200/- &

this will not cause any conflict with 26AS or they can modify the value of Interest paid from2000/-

to1000/- in 26AS & issue me TDS certificate of this effect? Kindly suggest. Thanking you, RAKESH
