Restricted Refund

In the IT Portal, the bank account status of some individuals show the status - 'Restricted for refund' ,but the account is validated.
There are no kyc issues and the accounts are operative.
This status is found for Federal Bank, HDFC bank etc.

Would someone guide on the issue ?

This was due to a mismatch between the PAN data & bank account details, such as name, etc.

What is the solution?

Pancard and bank passbook name same but restricted refund in account validation so please sir what's solution problem please send

Don't see name on PAN card. There is a character restriction for name to be embossed in PAN card. For restricted refund problem our name in bank should match with name in PAN database. Name in PAN database can be seen in Form 26AS or Profile page in IT site or check last year return form.Generally our surname is not fully shown in bank records. Get it rectified by giving Aadhaar(which shows our full name). After rectification in bank revalidate in IT site. I solved 5 issues of my friends & relatives.

Reason For Restricted Refund -Click the 3 dots beside acct # & see View Bank details it will show reason as “Refund can be credited only up to <50L> due to name mismatch between Bank account  & PAN. 50 L does not mean 50 lakhs, but it must be 50 thousand.

Restricted Refund shows when our name in bank is not matching with Pan Data base. Generally our surname is not fully shown in bank. Get name rectified in bank by giving Aadhaar which shows our full name. After rectification in bank Revalidate the account in Income Tax site.

are u sure that it is 50k only?Did u get any official reply from IT department if then, why remark updated 50L? pls clarify ...ur reply much appreciated

One of my friend received refund of 47000+ after his bank account marked Restricted Refund . IT department or CBDT  till date have not given any clarification on Restricted Refund. Even their help desk says that they were not aware of such issue and why accounts are marked with restricted refund. It cannot be 50 lakhs because generally Individuals won't have such big refunds. Also there is no need to mark restricted Refund for 50 lakh refund amount.People at CPC bengaluru themselves does not know about this software change as this was not there last year.

Sir, is ur friend supposed receive refund below 50 k or above 50k? if more than 50k, is he received only below amount.?

Also u know more info about IT, kindly check if anyone of ur friend received refund above 50k even account is restricted refund. then no need worry about our issue...

My friend has to receive only rs.47000+(below 50K) and he recived it fully. As of now i don't know any body with refunds above 50K. But i took care of all my friends for whom i file refunds. Out of 40 only 6 people have restricted refund bank accounts and after giving Aadhaar card i changed their names in bank. All of them their surname is not fully mention in bank. After name got altered in Bank, i revalidated in E-filing portal and account changed to Eligible For refund from Restricted Refund.

Meanwhile is your Refund above 50K.? Why don't you check your name in bank and in PAN data base (Don't see PAN card name as there is restriction of # of characters to be embossed (our name).

Hi, Aadhar correction limited with 2 times in a life time...we should give proper update without giving own assumption....i will keep you updated as my status is restricted refund ..if we give real time update ,that will save lot of people who is breaking their head for this kind of issue... even am also having similar problem only thing i need to wait till IT processed

In my friend's case his name in PAN database is same as per Aadhaar.

Why are you bothered about Aadhaar name update. You can also give another ID proof in bank which matches your name as per PAN data base (liket Voter ID, Driving License). For your kind information till date Income Tax dept has not given any clarification on Restricted Refund. When i was searching for solution for this problem i found out that this is happening because of name in bank did not match with PAn data base.Since i solved this for my friends i kept this info in this site so that it will be useful to others. I have not given any info on assumptions.

Sorry for sounding silly, but would I still get a refund if my account is "Restricted Refund" and the refund claimed is only 13K ?

I won't be able to change the name on the bank account as I am out of hometown for the next few months.

It is not silly, they don't want to trouble small tax payers.Stopping refunds upto Rs.50000/- meaning creating troubles for tax payers for the reason of name mismatch with PAN data base. Moreover the concept of KYC mostly came into existance only after 2005 (I'm a bank officer, hence i know). Earlier there were no concept of First name/Middle name/Last name and people used to use their surnames only in short.

Is mail address an issue for refund restriction? Does we need to give the same mail address in Income Tax Portal as in the Bank database?
