If Income tax refund cheque sent by SBI is returned undelivered due to addresse not being available, what is the procedure for claiming it back?
My client was sent cheque by SBI, but since he was not available during Diwali, it was returned to SBI. Now how do you ask SBI to resend the cheque? The ITO is also not aware of the procedure for reclaiming refund. The cheque was returned is also shown on NSDL website.
Why cant SBI do NEFT/ECS to refund the money?
SBI can't ECS the refund amount in your bank account as during filing of the return you might have not selected the option for ECS.
As regards the cheque, I think the assessee should go to SBI personally and request the bank authorities to hand over the cheque. If the bank refuses to do so, ask them the procedure or else apply to your ITO for reprocessing of your refund.
You can write a letter to you AO mentioned in the intimation to seeking him to send the refund cheuqe once again.
If you have e-filed the return either fill up the response sheet downloaded from efiling portol or simply write a letter mentioning E-filing Ack. No., A.Y. alongwith name & PAN of assessee. Also mention reason for refund failure. Mention the subject on the envelop containing letter and send it to CPC Banglore.
